• Finishes one of the World toughest triathlon in 9 hrs 30 mins secures 3rd position
• Handles challenging career in mental healthcare while competing and training at a high level of endurance
Nashik, 05 May 2026: In a remarkable display of endurance and mental resilience, Indian athlete Devika has secured a 3rd place finish at the Himalayan XTRI Solo Point Five, an extreme triathlon held in Pokhara, Nepal, completing the race in 9 hours and 30 minutes.
The 1st position was backed by Anastasiia Romanets from Ukraine whereas, Camille Etienne from Belgium stands on 2nd position.
Devika Patil achieved this without even being a sportsperson makes it one of the most awe-inspiring fitness feats I have ever come across. The journey back to 4 hours set a new benchmark for all of us who want to push our human limits. Having a professional in another field achieving this feat shows the true power of consistency and focus. Devika is a psychiatrist at the Swasthya Mental Health Clinic, Nashik who has a standard work schedule together with a grueling schedule to train for an extreme endurance race.
The Himalayan XTRI Solo Point Five is regularly billed as one of the hardest endurance races in the world and is anything but a relaxed triathlon. Athletes are faced with a 1.9 km open water swim, a 90 km ride over a hilly course with 2,400 meters of elevation gain and culminate with a 21 km high-altitude trail run with another 1,740 meters of elevation gain, bringing the totals to 4,140 meters of change in elevation.
Different than normal triathlons with the race taking place on manicured racecourses this race transports you to somewhere much more rugged: the mountains and back roads of rural Nepal. While the racecourse navigates steep climbs and technical descents the realistic race conditions including lower oxygen levels in the mountains require the athlete to be completely self-sufficient and self-motivated as this ultra takes place without outside assistance
Sharing her experience, Dr Devika Patil said, “Crossing the Himalaya XTRI Solo Point Five was beyond belief. The race brought me to do things I never thought I could. This race has been about months of relentless discipline, early mornings, sacrifices. Earning myself a 3rd place finish with 9 ½ hours made it all worth it, but it was not about the position, but about the persistence, effort and passion I put in to get here”.
This race forms a part of the widely acknowledged global XTRI WORLD TOUR, which organises extreme triathlons in some of the most difficult terrains that can be found across the globe. Of these, the Himalayan race, with its starting point at a few kilometres from Phewa Lake and the majestic Annapurna range in the background, is considered one of the toughest.
